Celebrating 70 Years

As we turn the page into 2026, the air in the shop feels a little different. It is a year we have been looking forward to for a long time. McNeil & Reedy is officially turning 70.

Looking back at 2025, it was a year of preparation and reflection. As we stand on the threshold of seven decades in business, we realized that 70 years is far more than a date on the building. It is a collection of thousands of handshakes, wedding day jitters, and job interviews that we have been lucky enough to be a part of.

A Century of Experience

While the shop hits 70 this year, we are also celebrating a staggering milestone within our own walls. Jim and John are celebrating a combined 100 years in the store. That is not a marketing slogan. It is a century of real-world experience. It represents one hundred years of knowing exactly how a sleeve should hang, how to solve a last-minute wardrobe crisis, and, most importantly, how to treat people. We are incredibly proud of that legacy, and we know it would not exist without a community that values craftsmanship over convenience.

The Road Ahead for McNeil & Reedy

To honor where we have been and where we are going, 2026 will see the release of some very special projects, as well:

  • The 70 Year Anniversary “”1956″” Private Label: A new line of heirloom-quality suiting and outerwear crafted in New York and Montréal and tailored here in Rutland, Vermont. These pieces feature premium American Woolen Company and Harris Tweed fabrics to honor the standards of our founders.
  • Expanded Tailoring Department: Highly anticipated New York and Montréal-made suiting developed to honor the tradition of our founders, James F. McNeil and George Reedy.
  • A Reimagined Shop Experience: We are investing back into downtown Rutland with a redesigned made-to-measure suit area and an expanded rental and private dressing space to better serve our customers during their most important milestones.
  • The Walk-In Cigar Room: An expansion of our premium cigar offerings to create a more complete experience for our customers.
  • The 70-Year Anniversary Whiskey: This is a spirit crafted to honor our history and toast to the future, with just 70 commemorative bottles produced for the occasion.

National Recognition, Local Vermont Roots

Though firmly rooted in Rutland, VT, McNeil & Reedy has gained national attention for our work in tailoring and menswear. Current owner, Casey McNeil has been featured in WWD and other industry publications, and most recently was quoted by New York Magazine as its tailoring expert in a roundup of the best men’s suits under $1,000.

Yet despite the spotlight, the McNeil philosophy hasn’t changed.

“You’re greeted when you walk in, often by a McNeil,” says Casey. “You’re listened to. You’re taken care of. That’s how we’ve done business for 70 years.”

And while we’re proud of the recognition, the greatest honor has always been serving the community that has supported us for seven decades.

To Our Community: Thank You!

Being a local business in a world that moves faster than ever is a privilege we do not take lightly. We are not just selling suits. We are maintaining a tradition of service that started three generations ago.

To everyone who has walked through our doors since 1956, whether you were buying your first tie or your tenth tuxedo, thank you. You are not just customers. You are the reason we have made it to 70.

We cannot wait to celebrate this milestone with you all year long. Save the date for our official 70th Anniversary Celebration on October 3, 2026. Keep an eye out for upcoming events and the official launch of our anniversary collection by subscribing to our newsletter.
